Obituary of Dorothy Irene Barber
Dorothy Irene Barber, age 96, passed away peacefully Friday morning, August 17, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by family after a short illness. Irene was born on July 17, 1922 in Morley, a mining town in southern Colorado. She was predeceased by her parents, George William Race and Sarah Anne Race (Scaife), her two brothers, Edward and Alfred, and her sisters, Edna Mae and Mary; her husband of 66 years, Daniel Calkins Barber, and her oldest son, Gerald "Jerry" Douglas Barber.
Irene although quiet and reserved was a fierce competitor when it came to playing games which she loved. Crossword puzzles, cards, Rummikub, dominos, and her 40 games of Words for Friends on her iPad kept her on her toes. After her husband died, she traveled with her daughter and son-in-law in their RV and lived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for many years. The family thanks all the loving care that she received at El Rancho Encanto Assisted Living and Casa do la Luz Hospice.
She is survived by her youngest son, Timothy Daniel Barber (Michelle); daughters, Vicky Boddie (Edward), Deborah Barber (Terry Lovins), Rebecca Barber (Dave Hastmann), and Joanna Cummings (Brian); daughter-in-law Annette Goodman Barber; grandsons Nathan Cook (Jennifer), Damon Avila (Brittany), Richard Daniel Barber, and Timothy Daniel Barber, Jr. (Chelsea); granddaughters Tymaree Cook Renaud (Andre), Meagan Vannucci (Aaron), Christa Sullivan (John), Renee Annette Barber, and Lena and Katy Cummings; and great-grandchildren: Jackson, Delaney, Drew, Kayla, Roqelle, Ashlynn, Loki, Tessa, Eva, and Kai.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Adair Funeral Home, Dodge Chapel. A private family graveside gathering is planned for 9 am, Saturday, August 25th when all the siblings and most of the grandchildren will be together for the weekend.
