Isaiah chapter 48 verse 17 tells us: "I, Jehovah, I am the One teaching you to benefit yourselves." The God who is teaching us to benefit ourselves says in Acts chapter 24 verse 15: "There will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous." Hope in God who can raise Ernest Blondeau back to life in God's Kingdom. The Bible and the website jw.org will help us see how real the hope of resurrection is.

My first memories of Uncle Gene and Aunt Lois are always centered around family gatherings in Wisconsin, summer vacations at the cottage on Lake Butte des Morts and all of us cousins getting together to catch up, cook too much food and eat more than we should. Gene was an imposing force to a young boy, his genuine excitement of seeing family and his storytelling ability left great impressions on me that are as vivid today as they were then. While we did not converse much later in life, I was kept in the loop of family goings-on through regular reports from Mom, and Gene's accomplishments always amazed me. My condolences to Bill, Jim, Randy and extended families, your loss is hard, but I believe that we are all better, broader people for having family like Gene and Lois influencing us, Uncle Gene will be forever and fondly remembered.

I met Gene and Lois almost 30 years ago on Thanksgiving Day. I was meeting the parents and sister, Vicki, of my boyfriend, Randy. I was very nervous, but I offered to help with dinner and cleanup and that seemed to make a lasting positive impression…whew! Gene and I have had a loving, yet lightly contentious relationship ever since. I don’t mean that we disliked one another, in fact it was just the opposite. What I mean is that we viewed the world very differently, and we talked about those differences a lot. I don’t think he quite knew what to make of his new daughter-in-law at first. For example, he was a physicist and mathematician, and I was an historian. We had opposing views on most subjects, and spent many, many hours debating many, many topics over the years. These conversations were illuminating for both of us. I learned a lot, and so did he. We agreed that it’s really good to hear a variety of perspectives. We never left one of our conversations angry, or feeling like we hadn’t been heard. And most importantly, we both left the conversations feeling respected. In the end, our only debates were about him receiving medical care. He did not want to do it, and the rest of the family wanted him to get professional medical help. The last months of his life were difficult for him physically and emotionally, but he faced them with strength and determination. He had heart problems and eventually kidney problems. These issues finally caught up to him. His main goal was to feel well enough to visit with Lois, and, toward the end, to live in the same assisted living facility as her. He was very disappointed to not have been able to see her one last time. In fact, the only reason he agreed to medical care at all was in an attempt to see her. He loved and missed her deeply. In those last months, I was fortunate enough to get to hear his life story again. He filled in a lot of details for me, and I cherish that time with him. Once again, we sat in the living room talking for hours, but these days he was sharing stories and memories with his favorite oldies station, KTUC, playing music in the background. He was very proud of his time in the Air Force, his varied career, and most of all, his love for his family. Lois really was his light and joy. It was lovely to see how he cared for her and conveyed his feelings for her during his final visits with her. I will never forget how he reached out to her both physically and emotionally. I saw a different side of him, and came to think of him as a closet sentimentalist. Yet really not so closeted. He never failed to let me know how much he loved and appreciated me, and how much he loved how I was raising his grandsons, Luc and Merrick. I really appreciated that. What it all comes down to is that we loved each other very much, and we weren’t afraid to say it. In loving memory of Gene, Donna Blondeau

Acts chapter 24 verse 15 say, ''There will be a resurrection of the righteous and the unrighteous.'' Trust in Jehovah God who can resurrect Ernest Blondeau in God's kingdom. The Bible and the website jw.org will help in our valuing that Bible verse.

Please accept my sincere condolences for your recent loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. I have always received comfort from the Bibles’ word at Philippians 4:7 which reads “and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus”. I hope you can receive comfort from these words as well. Margo Simmons
