Obituary of William J. Lazovich

LAZOVICH, William J. of Tucson passed away March 23, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born to John Lazovich and Stella (Lazovich) Vukcevich in Miami, Arizona. Bill is survived by his sisters, Virginia Torrey and Janna (Sandy) D'Anna; nieces, Dr. Camille Nebeker and Cass Nebeker; and nephew, Michael Campbell. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Dottie; parents and stepfather, Nick Vukcevich; sister, Edith Nebeker; brothers, Steve Lazovich, Robin and John Vukcevich; niece, Lisa Rice and nephew, Steven Campbell. After graduating from Globe High School, Bill earned a master's degree in secondary education from the U of A in 1959. As an educator, Bill served on many boards and committees including Tucson Youth Board, U of A Outstanding Guidance & Counseling Programs and AAA Interscholastic Championship Coaches Board. He was past president of the AAA Interscholastic Assn. He lectured at the U of A and spoke at national conferences. Bill was Principal of Sunnyside High School for many years where he began as a teacher and coach. In his younger years, Bill was Arizona Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. Bill loved his pets, enjoyed sports and classic cars, and entertaining family and friends. Bill touched many lives with his generosity, kindness and good nature. From his students to family, friends and to some he barely knew, he didn't think twice about putting others first and lending a helping hand. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. "A prince of a person" and "my hero." Private Services were held. Donations may be made to U of A Alumni Association or Humane Society of Arizona. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.
