Obituary of Richard Stanley Holovnia
HOLOVNIA, Richard Stanley 92, of Tucson, AZ, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, February 5, 2018. Richard is survived by June, his beloved wife of 67.5 years; his brothers, Fred of Worcester, MA and Joseph of Shrewsbury, MA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Born in Worcester, MA on September 10, 1925 to the late Joseph and Stella (Borek) Holovnia, Richard proudly served in the US Navy during World War II. After his service, Richard graduated from Colombia University and The Julliard School of Music. He went on to receive a Master's Degree from the American International College. Before moving to Tucson in 1962, Richard was a teacher in Springfield, MA. Upon relocation to Arizona, Richard worked as a teacher in the Amphitheater Public Schools. He worked at Amphitheater Junior High until his retirement in 1988. Richard's lifelong passion was music. For many decades, he served as bandleader of The Rich Stanley Band playing many instruments; his favorite being the trumpet. A Funeral Service is scheduled for Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Odilia Catholic Church followed by a burial at Holy Hope Cemetery in Tucson.
