Obituary of Clarence Richard Young

YOUNG, Clarence Richard "Tex" was born in Amarillo, Texas, September 26, 1927, to Loren W. and Sythia S. Young (Skinnell), and passed away peacefully in his Tucson home, Friday, January 5, 2018 being 90-years old. Tex was a Tucson resident for more than 60-years. He was not ill; he just wore out. Tex regularly exclaimed with admitted surprise, "I don't have a pain in my body!" He was the best husband and father ever. Yet, Tex was known as an ordinary and approachable person, personable, but doing extraordinary things. He was perhaps known best for the half-way house, the "Maranatha House" he and his wife, Vera, of 70-years founded together in 1969. Opening up their home to young-people for a number of years, they became counselors, mentors, and Dad and Mom to many...in addition to their own children. Tex loved to sing from an early age. With his deep, resonating voice, he sang in high-school and the church choir. As a teen and young-adult, he worked for his father's grocery stores in Amarillo and later for his dad's advertising company, L. W. Young & Company. But, following a life-changing salvation-experience Christmas Eve of 1967 self-described as liquid-love being poured over his entire body, Tex's path would take a new course. His faith being founded and professed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, Tex shared the love of Jesus with many young-people and celebrated seeing their lives changed. Tex was otherwise best known for leading praise and worship. Besides his uniquely rich voice, it was obvious he was genuine, sincere, and filled with joy singing and leading congregations known as Grace Chapel, Jesus Fellowship, and in his retirement years, his church home-group that he would insist was not his. Tex's leisure time was enjoyed by fishing in the White Mountains, golf, shooting-pool, horseshoes, and playing 42 (mostly), chess, and other games too with family and friends. Tex was preceded in his passing by his beloved wife of 70-years, Vera F. Young (Ferguson), (October 5, 2016), and his oldest son, George W. Young (May 10, 1999). He is survived by Virginia "Jennie" Y. Woods, Richard K. Young (Sandy), Lorena "Lore" Y. Kitchen (John), and Frank V. Young (Leticia). He is also survived by 14-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. A Memorial and Life-Celebration will be held in both Tex and Vera's honor, Saturday, February 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at Pantano Christian Church, 1755 S. Houghton Rd., Tucson, AZ 85748. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.
