Obituary of Leroy Shelton

Leroy Shelton was the eldest son born to Floyd Shelton and Ella M. Shelton on January 26, 1948 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended Solomon M. Coles H.S. in Corpus Christi, Texas. He enlisted in the USAF in 1966 and was stationed in Japan for two years. Upon departure from the USAF in 1971 he traveled to Tucson, AZ where he made his home. He met the love of his life Brendal in Tucson, AZ introduced to him by his son Kevin and daughter Belinda in 1990. They married on March 9, 2002. Leroy possessed a very strong work ethic. He was employed for 20+ years by Duval/ Cypress Mine and then worked for 20 years with TUSD as a Security Agent at Project MORE, Cholla H.S. and Tucson Magnet H.S. Leroy retired from TUSD in 2014. Leroy had various hobbies that included home remodeling, gardening, playing Bingo and the lottery, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys play football and attending high school sporting events. Many of his loved ones will remember his exceptional barbecue ribs and chicken, his signature barbecue sauce, hot water cornbread, and yummy margaritas. He prided in his showing of hospitality and entertaining at his famous backyard cookouts. He took many of his recipes with him that we may never know how to replicate but will savor in our hearts and minds forever. He leaves behind to celebrate his life his loving wife Brendal Shelton (Bertie), son-Kevin Shelton, daughter-Shekesha Shelton, daughter- Belinda Stevens (Reggie), son-Devin Lowder, daughter-in-laws-Leslie McGruder and Amy Stelly. Also 8 grandchildren Kashawn Shelton, Brianna Stevens, Aaliyah Stevens, Cierra Shelton, Khamani Holmes, Elysia Lowder, Juelz Mitchell and Royce Mitchell. He is survived by his siblings: Edna M. Smith of Corpus Christi, Bobby Jean of Houston, Alfred E. Shelton (Anna) of Corpus Christi & Robert L. Shelton of Texas and a host of many relatives and friends.
