Obituary of Russell Jones
JONES, Russell On Friday November 17, 2017, we lost Russ of the big laugh, the generous heart and the zest for life. Russ loved his family, relatives, as well as his law practice community, and his clients and staff, and lastly the University of Arizona. A decorated veteran of W.W.II, the medal he treasured most was the "Combat Infantry Men's Badge" which is awarded only to those who qualify without regard to rank, ethnicity or belief's. Russ was born in Albuquerque, NM, to George Bryant Jones and Vida Pinney Jones on September 15, 1924. In 1926, he moved to the Verde Valley (Clarkdale) where his father was Superintendent of Schools. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gretchen Warner Jones and children, Warner B. Jones and Gretchen (Randal) Wall; grandson, Christopher Brown and Charlotte (Michael); grandchildren, Kent, Meredith and Mark Morrissey and Meredith (Dr. Andrew); grandchildren, Matthew and Charlotte Weymer. A private family memorial service was held Sunday, November 19th at St. Matthew Episcopal Church where Russ served as Senior Warden and Chancellor. A Formal memorial and celebration of life will be held early in 2018 followed by an interment at the AZ Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Marana, AZ. The family requests no flowers. Instead donations if desired may be made in memory of Russ to the University of Arizona Law College, Box 210176, Tucson AZ 85775 or a charity of your choice.
