Obituary of Charles Francis Basker

Charles Francis Basker was born on April 5, 1931 to Cecilia (Wastic) and Clarence Basker in Casper, Wyoming. He died October 17, 2017. He brought smiles to many in his 86 years. Charles lived for many years at the Arizona Training Program at Coolidge and later at the Arizona Training Program in Tucson. He was one of the first residents to move out of the institution to Tucson Residence Group Home. In 1981, Charles moved into the pilot program for semi-independent apartments for developmentally disabled adults. He lived in a variety of residential settings over the years. He enjoyed his time in respite with Jackie Cieslak, and the time he spent with the staff of Desert Glory group home, when he lived there. Charles worked at many different jobs in his lifetime. He assembled lamps at Doral Lamp Factory, worked at the CP Foundation, Goodwill, and Advance. He made city street signs for the City of Tucson with the help of his supervisor, Carla, from the Handlers of Tucson. When he finally retired, he enjoyed 10 years attending Handmaker's SandRuby Adult Day Program. Many thanks to SandRuby and their staff for all that they did for Charles over the years. Many thanks to Luis Rodriguez, and Kaylene Strong for their respect, care, and advocacy for Charles. He enjoyed their friendship very much. Thanks to Desert Harmony Hospice for the care they provided when most needed. There will be a graveside service, Monday October 30, 2017 at 10 am at Holy Hope Cemetery at 3555 N Oracle Road, Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Charles to Handmaker's SandRuby Day Program, or Desert Harmony Hospice would be much appreciated.
