Obituary of William Ernest Lorenz
LORENZ, William Ernest (Uncle Bill) Joined his wife, Betty Ann, of 64 years on July 4, 2017 at the age of 85. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he and Betty Ann initially came to Tucson from Chicago as owners/operators of the Wayward Winds Motel. After a few ventures in various businesses, he discovered his true passion (aside from baseball) was golf and decided to pursue his PGA status. He often joked that he was the oldest "kid" in the PGA school. His golf career began in Tucson at the El Rio Golf Club and progressed from there as the Head Professional both at Carefree's Desert Forest Country Club and Pinetop Country Club - both positions he held for many years. He served on the Board of Directors of the SW Section of the PGA. Family and golf eventually brought them back to Tucson where they owned and operated Tees Please for several years. Throughout Bill's life and career, customer service was invaluable. His personality was one that was able to relate to any and all people. Truly a master conversationalist, his remarkable memory enabled him to recall almost everything about those whom he encountered. If you wanted to know anything about anything, call Uncle Bill. Somehow, he always knew the answer! He remained a true and loyal Chicago Cubs fan and his love of baseball prompted coaching of a little league team along the way. Bill's wit was unmatched; his caring for others unrivaled. A better friend would be impossible to find. He was a devoted son, loving husband, brother, uncle and friend to all he met. A Celebration of Uncle Bill's life will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Country Club of La Cholla - 8700 N. La Cholla Blvd. Donations may be made to Casa de la Luz Hospice - 7740 N. Oracle Rd., Tucson, AZ 85704. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
