Obituary of Irene Marie Hermann

Irene Hermann, born January 25, 1929, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2017. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, and her daughter, Alice Pearson. She is survived by her son, Greg, and daughter, Cindy. Irene's grandchildren include John Hermann (Jen), Tony Arnold (Kristina), David Hermann (Megan), Eric Arnold (Cellen), April Stanford (Justin), and Rachel Waskom. Irene was also a great-grandma to eleven wonderful children. Irene was born in Modena, Wisconsin, and grew up on her parents' farm with her 12 brothers and sisters. With her beautiful red hair and sweet voice, she sang in school musicals and at graduation. Irene married the love of her life, Glenn Hermann, in 1948, although she was late to the wedding due to an unfortunate meeting between a fender and a snowbank. While residing in Alma, Wisconsin with their three children, Irene was a wonderful hostess for many family celebrations and gatherings. In 1963 Irene rode a train out to Tucson, Arizona, with her family joining her soon after. She enjoyed life as a homemaker, but also worked at a bank, a church, and for a school district. Irene was a wonderful cook who frequently hosted holiday and birthday gatherings in addition to Bible studies and barbeques. She made the best cookies, cakes, and casseroles. At Christmas time she made lefse, sandbakkels, and rosettes, celebrating her Norwegian heritage. She traveled to Mexico, Japan, and Sicily, as well as many trips around Arizona and the United States. Irene excelled at the role of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always made special efforts to provide the children with fun activities and treats. Irene had a strong relationship with God, and was an active member at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church. She strongly believed in the power of prayer, and worked tirelessly to build and maintain a Christian retreat center south of Tucson. Irene was loved by all who knew her, and admired for her sense of style, love of jewelry, and an always immaculate home. Irene and Glenn were so in love for almost 69 years, and could regularly be found sitting together on the couch, holding hands. In lieu of gifts, Irene's family requests donations be made to Fountain of Life Lutheran Church or Gospel Rescue Mission. Irene's memorial service will be held at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church on Kolb Road on Saturday, June 17, at 10:00 AM.
