Obituary of Helen A. Modeen

MODEEN, Helen A. of Tucson died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the age of 101. She was born in DeKalb, Illinois to James and Sadie Duffy on March 21, 1916. She married her husband, John W. "Wes" Modeen in 1939. From the early '40s till their retirement Helen worked side by side with her husband at the Duffy and Modeen Firestone Home and Auto store until their retirement in 1964. From that time they would spend some of their winter months here with her parents. After her parents passing they eventually settled here in Tucson until her husband's passing in 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen (Jay) Fitzpatrick of Bettendorf, Iowa and son, Father James Modeen of Tucson. Left to honor her memory are three grandchildren, Matthew (Valentina) Fitzpatrick, of Portland, Oregon, Susan Brooks of Des Moines, Iowa and Sara (Jason) Young of Bettendorf, Iowa. Also survived by six great-grandchildren, J. Michael, Ava and Jett Young, Louis, Thomas and Francis Brooks. The entire family gathered in Tucson for Helen's 100th birthday last year. She is also survived by a lot of friends. Memorial Service will be Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 8650 N. Shannon Road in Tucson.
