Obituary of Coralee Ann Rice

SCHELLIE, Coralee "Corky" Ann Rice she was born in Topeka, KS, on October 22, 1931, daughter of Ann Thorson Rice and Harry LeRoy Rice. She graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural H.S. in 1948, Baker University in 1952 and University of AZ (M.Ed., specializing in Library Science) in 1972. Corky was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity and Kappa Pi Educational Honorary. She taught history and geography in KS, IL and AZ, and was head librarian at Amphitheater Jr. High and Canyon del Oro High School. Corky was a member of Junior League of Tucson. She was the widow of long-time (22 years) Tucson Daily Citizen columnist and author of six books, Don Schellie, whom she married after a three-week courtship and long-distance engagement when Don was in the U.S.A.F. during the Korean Conflict. They were married August 15, 1953 and were happily married exactly 29.5 years until his untimely death on February 15, 1983. Corky is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie Schellie (Karl Harshman), Kendall Schellie-Daniels (Paul Daniels) and Kristina Schellie (Jeff Wright); two granddaughters, Morgen and Ciara Daniels, a French student exchange daughter, Sylviane Bodin Salinas and dear family from coast to coast. She enjoyed reading, travel, nature, her association with Norwegians Worldwide and many treasured friends of decades. She died from complications of Achalasia on September 15, 2016. Corky would like to acknowledge the loving care she received from Casa de la Luz Hospice, from namely Karen, Christy, Tracy and the fine G.I. team, doctors, Afonso, Banerjee, Chouan, Ghoulan and nurses/techs in unit 6E at UA/Banner hospital.
