THERE ARE SO MANY STORIES I COULD TELL ABOUT COACH ROYBAL BUT THE ONE THAT MAKES ME SMILE HAS TO BE THIS ONE. THE YEAR WAS 1974. WE WERE THE NUMBER ONE SEED IN THE CLASS "C" NORTH DIVISION. WE TRAVELED TO ASH FORK TO FACE THE WORST TEAM ON PAPER IN THE STATE. FOR THEM, THIS WAS THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. WE CAME OUT FLAT WITH THEM RUNNING OFF TEN UNANSWERED POINTS. COACH BENCHED THE ENTIRE FIRST TEAM FOR VIRTUALLY THE ENTIRE GAME! WE BARELY BEAT THAT TEAM BY LESS THAN TEN POINTS. WE WOULD FACE THEM AGAIN IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS & AGAIN THEY RULED OUR STARTING FIVE. HE BENCHED US ALL AGAIN! WE BARELY WON THAT GAME BUT WENT ON TO WIN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP. IT DID NOT MATTER TO COACH IF YOU WERE THE BEST PLAYER IN THE COUINTRY; IF YOU DID NOT DO YOUR JOB, YOU GOT TO SIT NEXT TO HIM & LISTEN TO THE RANT! RIP COACH! THIS WAS ONLY ONE OF THE MANY LIFE LESSONS YOU TAUGHT ME!
