Obituary of William Francis Leonard
LEONARD, William Francis 65, died peacefully after a long illness, at home, surrounded by his family, Thursday, March 16, 2017. Bill was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., July 14, 1951, raised in Brooklyn and Queens before graduating from St. Francis Preparatory High School in 1969. The year the Mets won the series and man landed on the moon. He moved to Tucson in 1990 after suffering a stroke, to raise his family. Bill was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, coach, soccer referee, and friend to many. He loved poker, music, darts, bowling and his family. With his limitations, he avidly coached Baseball, Chess and Soccer teams. He is predeceased by his parents, Lillian and William. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara; daughter, Kelly Mendelsohn (Jason); son, William Leonard (Jessica); sisters, Patricia Wallenstein and Mary Leonard; brothers, Edward Leonard (Liz) and Thomas Leonard; grandchildren, Caleb, Conner, Chloe Mendelsohn, Evelyn Leonard and 12 nieces and nephews. Services on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Blvd., Tucson, AZ. Private family burial at Holy Hope Cemetery on Monday, March 20, 2017. He was loved and will dearly be missed!
