Obituary of Phyllis Fox

Phyllis Ann Brown Fox was reunited with her daughter Becky and her parents on Saturday, February 18th. Phyllis was born on December 12, 1927 in Bluefield, West Virginia to Sallie and Henry Brown. Phyllis was an only child. She grew up in Bluefield where she attended Wade Elementary and the local Junior High School, then graduated from Beaver High School. She loved playing the clarinet in the high school band. After graduation from high school, Phyllis attended Concord College, majoring in Home Economics Education. She graduated in January 1949 and started teaching Home Economics at Pocahontas High School. Phyllis met the love of her life, David S. Fox, in April 1948. David was serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Bluefield area. After his mission, David returned to West Virginia and attended Concord College. While in college, David and Phyllis dated and were married on April 15, 1949 in the home of Phyllis's parents. Before David and Phyllis were married, they had received special permission to first get married and then a few months later be sealed in the temple. On June 27, 1949 David and Phyllis were sealed for all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. David and Phyllis have five children: Martha, Andy, Elizabeth, Becky, and Henry. David and Phyllis lived in Bluefield while Phyllis taught at Pocahontas High School and David finished school at Concord College. They say you can take the girl out of the south, but you can't take the south out of the girl. This was especially true for Phyllis. Shortly after graduation, David and Phyllis packed up their two kids and all their belongings and moved to California. Several years and three more kids later, David and Phyllis packed again and moved their family to Arizona where they were living at the time of Phyllis's death. Phyllis served faithfully in many callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While serving as the Stake Relief Society President, Phyllis had a favorite slogan: "Serve at your earliest inconvenience." This slogan summed up Phyllis's life of service. She loved and served all that crossed her path. David had this to say about Phyl: "Phyllis is truly a queen in her home. She is loving and kind and truly a helpmeet and pillar of strength to her husband." Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Sallie and Henry, daughter Becky and many Aunts and Uncles. She is survived by husband David and her children Martha (Robert), Andy (Susan), Elizabeth (Robert) and Henry (Allyson), as well as 18 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren--with 3 more arriving shortly. Services for Phyllis will be on Saturday, February 25th at 2:00 PM with a viewing at 12:30 at The Tucson North Stake Center at 939 West Chapala Drive in Tucson, Arizona. Interment will be at the Binghampton Cemetery located at 4001 N Alvernon Way, Tucson.
