Obituary of Shirley Ameling
AMELING, Shirley 81, Shirley Helbig Haskell Ameling, a native of Tucson, passed away January 17, 2017 in Tucson, Arizona. Shirley was a beloved wife and mother and was loved by all who knew her. She always had a smile and kind word for every one she met. Her sense of humor and infectious laugh brought joy to all who knew her. Shirley was born in Tucson Arizona to Clinton and Charlotte Helbig on January 3, 1936. She graduated from Tucson High School in 1953 and attended the University of Arizona. Shirley married Fletcher Haskell and together raised their daughter's, Charlotte Haskell, Susan (Haskell) Luedtke, Kathryn Haskell and Barbara (Haskell) Nichols. After her marriage to Don Ameling, the love of her life, she helped to raise Don Ameling's daughters Nanci and Ellen Ameling and their children. She is also survived by loving grandchildren Louisa Haskell, Hallie Luedtke, Ryan and Tyler Nichols. Shirley supported many of Tucson's philanthropic and social groups. She was a member of the American Legion, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Rainbow Girls and member of the Junior League of Tucson. She served on the board of directors of St. Luke's Home Board of Visitors. She was instrumental in the membership and board of the Tucson Zoological Society. She was a loving member of the Church of Christ and a member of the following social groups, SNEDCO, OLA's and The Lunch Bunch. Shirley was a song leader at Tucson High School and remained a supporter of her class and others in the Badger's Foundation until her death. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Luke's Board of Visitors or the Badger Foundation of Tucson High School.
