Obituary of Richard S. Case
CASE, Richard S. 89 years young, known by loved ones as, "The Most Interesting Man In The World," passed away peacefully in his sleep January 2, 2017. His graceful exit capped a life well lived. In 1946, after serving in the U.S Navy, Richard began his optical career. He worked in Tucson, building a solid business with thousands of devoted patients. While running Optical Dispensers and raising a family, he still found time to pursue his many passions, hunting, diving, deep sea fishing and cycling. Among his many achievements, Richard was a founder and president of the Desert Dolphins diving club. He volunteered his expertise to Pima County Search & Rescue, making dozens of underwater recoveries. Along with his responsibilities as president of Greater Arizona Bicycling Association, Richard rode in and organized events with El Tour De Tucson and Senior Olympics. He was an advisor to the Ophthalmic Dispensing Program at Pima Community College and was president of the Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society. Richard's storytelling abilities are legend. A docent at Tohono Chul, he could be found spellbinding visitors with his knowledge of ethno botany and native culture. In his own community, Richard became involved in transforming the landscape to reflect the beauty of the desert. The many homeowners who are shocked and saddened by his passing will miss his charming, gregarious personality. Perhaps Richards's greatest passion was love and he found it with his beautiful wife Juanita, affectionately known as "Nita." Together they raised three children and enjoyed homes in Tucson and Rocky Point. She preceded him in death by seven months and we pray they are reunited with their beloved daughter, Diane. Richard is survived by three sons, Russell (Sasha), Stephen (Leticia) and Richard Allen (Debra). He was blessed with grandchildren, Gretchen, Elle, Max, Tessa, Tanya, Caroline, Mitchell and great- grandchildren, Josh, Bella, Lyla and Dino. Richard never met a stranger, perhaps you are one of the many who have crossed paths with this wonderful man. If so, count yourself lucky. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Tohono Chul Park in Oro Valley, AZ. Celebration of Life to follow. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
