Obituary of Jerry Lee Lamasney Miller
MILLER, Jerry Lee LaMasney passed away November 18, 2016. Jerry was born September 6, 1931 in Webster City, Iowa, the only child of Helen and Lewis Miller. He obtained BS and MS degrees from the University of Oklahoma in 1953 and a PhD from Florida State University. In 1962 he helped the University of Arizona develop the Department of Sociology and retired in 1992. He endeared himself to students by making their sociology classes fun and interesting with his quirky T-shirts, quick wit and sense of humor. A former student would eventually recognize him at a rest stop in Missouri, telling him how much she enjoyed his class at the U of A. Jerry will be remembered for his patience, down-to-earth manner and courage in the face of increasingly debilitating lung disease. Jerry's sense of adventure never ceased. He and Lee spent three harrowing weeks traveling through hurricane ravaged lands on their way to Honduras for Lee's research. At 65, Jerry learned to scuba dive leading to nearly 10 years of diving with Lee. In his later years, he enjoyed volunteering with the Friends of the Tucson Public Library. Jerry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lee; daughters, Jennifer Miller Grant (Doug Neill) and Shannon Sennott-Chandler (Davis), and grandchildren, Emily and Jonah. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.
