Obituary of James Joseph Shook
James Joseph Shook, passed away at the age of 84 on October 7, 2016 in Tempe, AZ after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his three children: Cathy Lankford, James David Shook and Daniel Shook. Also surviving are daughter-in-laws Joanna and Kristin, grandchildren Mattingly and Dallas, his sister, Mary Darcy and nephews Michael and Brian. Jim was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Joseph V. Cusmino and his beloved wife, Ann.
Jim was born in Chicago in 1932 and graduated from Mount Carmel H.S. He saw combat in the Korean War in the Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from Loyola University in Chicago with a degree in Accounting. Jim earned his C.P.A. accreditation and began his career at the IRS as an auditor, later moving into private practice in Chicago and Tucson.
Jim and Ann came to Tucson on vacation in 1968 with their two young children, Cathy and Jim. The family stayed at the Tanque Verde Ranch and fell in love with the beauty of the desert. In 1969 the couple moved their family to Tucson. In 1971, Ann gave birth to their third child, Daniel.
Jim and Ann loved being parents and their lives revolved around raising their family.
Jim will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family. He'll also be remembered for his intellect, his love of music, computers, politics and chocolate candy.
An avid sports fan of both college and professional sports, his heart belonged to the Chicago Bears and the Chicago White Sox.
Jim will be laid to rest in the Veteran's section of Holy Hope Cemetery. The Family will have a private memorial service to honor him.
