Ramona was born in San Miguel, New Mexico on January 19, 1919. Ramona lived a fulfilling, healthy, and holy 97 years. Her family was raised in humble surroundings in a coal mining town near Van Houghton, New Mexico. She got the urge to travel young and set off for Korea, the Phillipines, and Japan, where she met the love of her life, Alex, after WWII. During the war, she worked as a secretary, telephone operator, and Rosie the Riveter with the Navy during the war. Alex was a career Navy man which allowed them the opportunity to travel to various duty ports in the U.S. They finally settled in Tucson in 1962. Her desire to travel never faded as she enjoyed religious pilgrimages to Italy, France, Israel, Portugal, and Mexico. She went back to school and got a nursing degree and worked at Tucson General for 16 years. She had been very active in her community with Casa Maria, Legion of Mary, Lay Carmelites, Catholic Daughters, and the Benedictine Sisters. Ramona had a deep and profound love of her Catholic faith.
