Obituary of Edward B Acuna
ACUNA, Edward B. Our beloved Edward B. Acuña passed away peacefully on August 29, 2016 after a long and valiant struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Ed was born in Tucson March 1, 1937 to Eduardo and Jessie Acuña. After graduation from Tucson High School in 1956, Ed earned bachelor and master degrees from the University of Arizona in education and administration. His career in education spanned over 35 years beginning as a high school teacher and Dean of Boys at Pueblo High School. Ed served a long and distinguished career with Pima Community College from a director for the Tucson Skills Center in 1970 to retiring as provost of the Pima Community College Desert Vista Campus in 1997. He will always be remembered for his outstanding administrative leadership and passion to nurture, train and employ thousands of students in the greater Tucson region. Ed loved nature and was an avid horseman and hunter, which he enjoyed with family and friends. He loved working with his hands to bring out the beauty of family property in Marana, St. David, and in Tucson. Ed was a man of enormous personality and resilience. Even as his physical and mental health declined he retained his sense of humor and great love for his family. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Irene H. Acuña. He is also survived by daughter, Rose Acuña Williams (Terry); sons, Edward D. Acuña and Steven M. Acuña (Donna) of Seattle, WA; brother, Richard B. Acuña (Vivienne); two loving granddaughters, three grandsons, numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and a host of admiring friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S Stone Ave. in Tucson. The 9:30 a.m. Rosary will be followed by 10:30 a.m. Mass and 12:30 graveside services at Holy Hope Cementary, 3555 N. Oracle Rd., Tucson. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages that donations be made to ;Alzheimer's Association , Desert Southwest Chapter, 1159 N. Craycroft Road, Tucson, AZ 85712.
