Obituary of Margaret Wetsel Hetrick

HETRICK, Margaret Wetsel beloved mother and wife, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, UofA professor David L. Hetrick, who was the love of her life and with whom she is now reunited. She was born to Emma McLeod Wetsel and John Harris Wetsel on October 31, 1926, in Troy, NY, where she later met David on a most memorable blind date. She attended business college and worked as a technical secretary and volunteered for numerous organizations. After moving to California to start a family with her new husband in the early 1950s, she set up home in Tucson and lived here for 53 years. She had a deep appreciation of the natural world and a love of camping, hiking, playing bridge, world travel, wildlife-watching and animals, fine food, music, and the arts. She had a delightful sense of humor and a kind heart and many long and lasting friendships. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Carol Hetrick, Nancy Hetrick and Amy Jacobs; grandsons, Benjamin Rosser and Jonathan Jacobs and nieces, Shirley Reed, Nancy Bowes, and Diane Vartigan. A private Celebration of her life will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tucson Humane Society or the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum.
