Obituary of Karen Hobson
HOBSON, Karen Green died Saturday, August 13, 2016 peacefully, at home, with her family and close friends around her. Karen's months of cancer treatments were made bearable not only by the love and care provided by her husband, Alex and their children, Eric (Sara), Timothy and Matthew, but also by the generous attention and support of the wonderful communities of friends and colleagues she cultivated in her life. She was an active member and Elder of St. Mark's Presbyterian Church and had served in the past as a member of the board of the St. Mark's preschool. Before retiring in 2012, she taught first and second grades at Borton Primary Magnet School for six years. She had also taught preschoolers for several years at Tucson Community School. She earned her Master's of Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in 2007, a Master's of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1983 and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1976. This family was blessed that Karen could interrupt her first career in social work helping foster families in Tucson to give her full time and energies to raising their three wonderful sons who will always be her greatest and most accomplished students of life. Karen was the daughter of Dr. Joseph M. Green and Ruth Fenner Green. Born in Topeka, Kansas in 1955, the family moved to Tucson in 1961. Karen had two siblings, Richard C. Green (Stephanie) and Jeffrey M. Green (Tina), both of whom predeceased her. She is loved by all of us that remain in this life, including her nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service for Karen will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. Third Street, Tucson, Arizona 85716, with a reception to follow at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Karen Green Hobson Tuition Scholarship Fund at St. Mark's Preschool and Kindergarten (http://stmarks preschool.com) or the Karen Green Hobson Scholarship Fund in care of PTA, Borton Primary Magnet School, 700 E. 22nd St., Tucson, AZ 85713. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
