Obituary of Rodney Roy Sanborn

SANBORN, Rodney Roy was born on January 22, 1943 in Honolulu, Hawaii and passed away in Tucson, Arizona on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the age of 73. Roy was a very proud graduate of Kamehameha Schools Class of '61. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at the age of 19 he faithfully served a mission in Japan. He spent eight years serving his country in the United States Air Force. He received his Electrical Engineering degree from Cogswell Polytechnic College and spent his engineering career with Varian, Boeing, Telgaas and MCL. He was one of the lucky ones to have retired at the age of 59, however, retirement did not slow him down. He now had more time to fix a broken TV, help someone move, or clean the neighbor's driveway and yard, while they weren't looking. He genuinely loved helping and serving others. As a staunch conservative, he likely couldn't bear the thought of voting in the upcoming Presidential election. He loved golf, Hawaiian music, teaching math and he loved the Gospel. Roy is survived by his wife of 20 years, Colleen Murphy; daughters, Molly Puahaulani Menlove, Rebekah Keonani Sanborn, Sarah Mahealani Nielson, Rachel Malia McBride and Miranda Puanani Sanborn; sons, Keka (Seth) Patrick Sanborn and Zachary Roy Sanborn; stepdaughter, Aileen Murphy and stepson, Tom Murphy; 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, his brothers, Vernon and Herman and his much-loved dog Mabel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Carnation; his Granma, Ginny and his beloved brother, Francis. Aloha 'Oe, until we meet again! We'll miss you Dad! Funeral Service will be held at the LDS Chapel, Coronado Ward, 939 West Chapala Drive, Tucson, Arizona at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 with Visitation from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe, Hawaii on August 25, 2016.
