Jon Steven Hemmeter
Born Nov. 18, 1948 in Detroit, MI; died Aug. 3, 2016, at Tucson VA Hospice. 1966 Rincon High School graduate. Served in the US Army Signal Corps in Viet Nam and honorably discharged as an SP5 in 1971. Received a bachelor's of arts degree in 1973 from the University of Arizona College of Fine Arts, School of Theatre Film & Television. Jon pursued a career in acting, directing and stagecraft in Tucson, Los Angeles and Las Vegas but felt the years spent teaching theater at Tucson High Magnet School were his greatest achievement. Jon coached many winning students in the National Shakespeare Competition sponsored by The English-Speaking Union of the United States. Jon is survived by his mother, Roxie Louise, his brother David and family in Las Vegas, his significant other Jan Howard, and his many theater students. A celebration of Jon's life will be held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, at the Hill Farmhouse, 3050 N Hill Farm Drive, in Tucson. Memorials may be made in his name to the Old Pueblo Community Foundation (www.helptucson.org) to support homeless vets.
