Obituary of Amelia Melnik
MELNIK, Amelia EdD, passed away on May 30, 2016. She was 88. Originally from Fall River Massachusetts, she was a resident of Tucson for over 50 years. Dr. Melnik earned her BS degree from Boston University, and her Doctorate in Education from Columbia University. She accepted a position in the School of Education at the University of Arizona in 1960, and was integral in the development of the Department of Reading. Dr. Melnik served as Professor of Reading until her retirement. Dr. Melnik was a world traveler and educator, with appointments and assignments throughout the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Europe and Southeast Asia. She held an Honorary Life Membership in the International Reading Association, and was the recipient of numerous honors and awards. Her passion for teaching and lifelong love of learning influenced generations of both teachers and students. Amelia Melnik will be buried with her family in Fall River, Massachusetts.
