Obituary of Linn Rodgers Throwbridge

TROWBRIDGE, Linn Rogers a long-term Tucson resident, died peacefully at her home in the evening of March 18, 2016, in the devoted care and company of her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Linda Trowbridge and best friend of 40 years Bill Ruggerillo. Linn, born in Bay Shore, New York on March 22, 1929, is also survived by her loving daughter, Candis Trowbridge, and by a host of cousins and other relatives in Connecticut and New York. Linn, the daughter of Elsie Margarite Linn Rogers (1896-1969) and Dudley Thayer Rogers (1889-1972), married Peter Trowbridge in 1948, and moved to Tucson three years later. She was active in making mid-century Tucson a better community. In 1953, she and her husband received an FCC license to operate KEVT, Tucson's first Mexican-language radio station. They operated the station for well over a decade, with Linn acting as the radio program and advertising manager. In addition, the couple owned and operated Ice Land, a popular combination bowling alley and ice-skating rink. After selling those enterprises, Linn worked as a sales consultant, manager, and mentor for sales associates at Levy's Department Store in its heyday, and after retiring from there, at Foley's and Settings. Linn ended her retail sales career after managing highly successful gift shops at Ventana Canyon Resort and at the historic Arizona Inn. Never one to sit idle, Linn was a member of the Pueblo and Catalina Junior Women's Clubs and served as Chairperson of the Red Cross Motor Service Corps in the 1950s. Sometimes, her good intentions exceeded her best judgment, as in 1960, when she served as President of the Tucson Cat Club, although close contact with cats made her break out in a rash. Linn was a member of the Tucson Arthritis Support League from 1995 to her passing. She served as TASL's sunshine lady. Her family and friends will never forget Linn's willingness to help, to lend an ear, and to give sound advice. Instead of flowers, the family asks that her well-wishers make donations to an institution she cherished and loved to visit, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
