Obituary of Daniel Christopher Neale

NEALE, Daniel Christopher III Dan Neale passed to a better place March 15, 2016 after a long struggle with dementia. He was born in Moscow, Idaho March 2, 1931 to Mervin and Margaret Neale. When he was six the family moved to Minneapolis and his spirit always remained in Minnesota. As a young man, Dan led an explorer scout troop camping and canoeing along the great North Shore. As an undergrad, Dan attended Harvard College, earned his masters degree at Macalester College, was awarded a Ph.D. at University of Minnesota where he taught Educational Psychology. For 25 years he was a professor and Dean of the College of Education at the University of Delaware. While there he joined a group of faculty on a trip around the world to study education in underdeveloped countries. He published many papers for educational journals and co-authored a book, "Strategies for School Improvement". One of his passions was music. As a lyric tenor, he was a soloist in churches and other musical venues. With a wife pianist, he led elaborate musicales in the home. Dan was a cheerful person with a good heart. He had a loyal spirit and respected the differences in all people. He was a man of faith. Dan shared his strengths, hopes and experiences with others in his 42 years in a 12 Step Program. Retiring in Tucson, Dan played golf, took up fly fishing, biking and Thai Chi. For leisure he read books and studied drawing and painting at The Drawing Studio. He is preceded in death by his four siblings, Margaret, Julia, Jane and Gordon. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Carile and his three children, Mary Neale (Bruce) Tucson, Chris Neale, ( Terry) Landenberg, PA and Sarah Lewis (Brian) Minneapolis, MN and five grandchildren, Rachel, Rebekah and CJ Neale, Quinn and Hayley Lewis.
