Obituary of James E Leader

Leader Sr., James E. "Jim" James was born April 7th, 1936 in Schenectady, New York. He passed away peacefully, Friday, March 4th, 2016 in Tucson, Arizona. He took his last breath surrounded by the love of family members. He was born in Schenectady to Margaret and Charles Leader. One of six children, he loved his siblings-Patricia, Charlie, Harry, Linda and Bill. It was always an adventure growing up as one of six children. He enlisted in the Army in the 50's, serving his country and was discharged with honor. On August 20th, 1960, he married Patricia Pepper, also of Schenectady. Jim and Pat started a family in Schenectady then moved to Scotia in the late 60's to raise their family. Jim worked in the automotive industry, both in sales and management at Van Curler Motors and Mohawk Chevrolet in Schenectady. A lifelong golfer, he became Club Champion at the Mohawk Golf Club in 1973. When he wasn't working, he was spending time with family and friends-at Lake George, or taking the kids to watch planes and trains. In 1975, Jim and Pat decided to leave the cold New York winters and join family members already living in Tucson. Jim worked for several local car dealerships, eventually striking out on his own with Leader Auto Sales. He was active in the Tucson business community for many years. He was a passionate University of Arizona fan, following the Wildcats in good years and bad. In his later years, when it was harder to get around, he still attended U of A football and basketball games to cheer on the Cats. He also volunteered his time at the VA in Tucson, working with fellow veterans. Although Jim spent 40 years in Tucson and put down roots there, he always loved returning to Schenectady and Lake George, the "Queen of American Lakes." Jim and family were blessed to return to Lake George last summer, giving him one last chance to cruise his beloved lake. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia, four loving children; James (Christine), John (Susan), Betsy & Tom. He leaves behind a proud legacy of ten grandchildren - Erin, Aiden, Justus, Laura, Jonas, Sean, James, Janelle, Katie and Matthew - Jim loved being their Grampa. Jim leaves behind many beloved family and friends in Tucson and Schenectady. His 55-year marriage to Pat was enduring. Words cannot express Pat's devotion, the sacrifices she made and the love she gave. To oldest son Jim - you had a unique and precious place in Dad's heart. You've achieved great success - know that he was proud of you. Going to UA games with son John in later years was a blessing and cherished time spent together. Daughter Betsy - you were his little girl who blossomed into an amazing mother and businesswoman. He understood - and respected how remarkable you are. Son Tom - more than anyone else, he was there for you on the day of your accident (Nov. 6, 1996) and every day after that. You were his son & he loved you and took care of you. "Jimmy" to his brothers & sisters, he loved telling stories about growing up with you. Nobody could tell a story better than Grampa. He loved you all so much. He's with Granny, Charlie and CC now. Without a doubt, his children and grandchildren will carry on the family bond and keep it strong. Dad, the physical pain is over now and you're at peace. We're also at peace Dad, but can't believe you're gone. We love you and will miss you, always. Whenever we gather as a family, we know you'll be with us. We'll tell your stories, laugh and honor your memory. Your love of family will carry on with us. Jim will be remembered in a Celebration of Life on Friday, April 15th, at Oro Valley Country Club with invited family and friends.
