Obituary of Evelyn Adwell Halstead
Evelyn Adwell Halstead 2/15/1919 - 12/11/2015 Evelyn passed away at her home in Tucson, AZ at the age of 96. Born on the family farm, Evelyn left Pine Township, Indiana to serve her country in the first class of Navy WAVES during World War II. Following her training, she became one of the country's first female air traffic controllers, stationed in Jacksonville Naval Air Station, in Jacksonville, FL. Evelyn's unique personality and passions resulted in a life of exceptional experiences and enjoyment. She traveled the world extensively, enjoyed interior decorating, and collecting antiques. She also had a great appreciation for art and music. Her greatest love was always for her husband and family. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Clyde E. Halstead; her son, Clyde G. Halstead and her sisters, Eva Franklin and Helen Besse of Indiana. She is survived by her sister, Wilma "Billie" Adwell; son, Roger (Kathleen) Halstead; daughter, Jane (George) Andren. She was most proud of her grandchildren, Lara (Queso) Andren, Sky (Lynn) Andren, John Halstead, Cyde P. (Amber) Halstead, William (Alethea) Halstead and Hillary (Lonnie) Andren-Wise. She was overjoyed to know her great-grandsons, William Oliver Halstead, Julian Wise and Emerson Wise. Evelyn and Clyde helped young people from all walks of life. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, remembrances are sent to: Youth On Their Own, 1660 N. Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ 85712. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Evelyn's wonderful caregivers: Tusnelda, Jill, Christina, Candy, Alena and Pauline.
