Jose A. "Joe" Maltos died November 9, 2015 in Tucson after a long illness. Survived by wife, Jill; children, Tina Maltos Ashlock (Larry) of Washington, Joseph Maltos (Amanda) of Tucson, Hope Maltos James (Kim) of Tucson, Stephen Maltos (Gracie) of Washington and Megan Maltos of Tucson; nine grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, one brother, one sister and his beloved daughter, Faith and granddaughter, Joey Rae. Born in Edinburg, Texas to migrant farm worker parents, they eventually settled in Granger Washington. He was a graduate of the 1953 class of Granger High School, attended Yakima Valley College, and was an Army veteran. He was proud to have been the first Executive Director of El Rio Health Center in Tucson, and to have overseen the building of the facility that currently stands at 839 W. Congress. He also worked at Regional Center of the East Bay and Tobinworld in California and was a corporate partner of Danswest Dance in Tucson. Jose loved sports and played tennis, basketball and football during his life, was a true UofA Wildcat fan, had a great sense of humor, made the best salsa and could make everything grow in the garden. But most of all he loved his family; nothing was more important. He taught us about the value of hard work and of courage, strength and perseverance in the face of illness and adversity, but most of all he taught us to love unconditionally. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association . Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
