Obituary of Sue Ferguson
Sue Ferguson, RN, BSN, RYT-500
August 16, 1955 - November 1, 2015
On Sunday, November 1, our beloved Sue Ferguson crossed the rainbow bridge. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends when she passed. She is survived by her beloved and very patient husband, John; her wildly independent daughter, Katie; her calm and nurturing son, Keith; her forever devoted sister, Kathy Vogt; and her fur-faced kids, PJ, Cardy, Bailey, and Cassie. She is also survived by her stepson David and his family, and many wonderful and amazing friends. She was predeceased by her extraordinarily wonderful mother (Mutti), her steadfast, loving father (Putti), and her humorous dare-devil brother (Bob).
Sue was born in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of parents, John and Mary Lee Vogt. She was a graduate of Neshaminy High School, class of 1973. She received her RN from Chestnut Hill College, School of Nursing in 1976, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from William Carey University. She was an emergency room nurse at Hahnemann Hospital (Philadelphia), Touro Infirmary (New Orleans), Lehigh Valley Medical Center (Allentown, PA), and University of Arizona Medical Center (Tucson). She worked at UMC from 1993 to 2015, and she was a Clinical Nurse Leader in the Emergency Department for more than two decades. She was always a fierce and loyal advocate for her patients, her colleagues, and her fellow staff members.
Sue was also a certified yoga instructor who began teaching in 1987. She received her yoga teacher certification in 1994 and was a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT-500 level. She was also a certified Yoga Therapist who founded La Mariposa Therapeutic Yoga in Tucson. She served as a yoga teacher-trainer with The Yoga Connection as one of the lead faculty members.
In addition to her careers in emergency nursing and yoga therapy, Sue was also an avid scuba diver. She blended her knowledge of yoga with her love of scuba diving to offer training in Yoga for Scuba Divers. She was a passionate writer, working on her book "Yoga for Divers: Under-the-Sea Yoga" at the time of her passing.
Sue was a true Leo the Lion: courageous, smart, strong-willed, decisive, opinionated and always energized by "verbal fencing." She was exceedingly kind, full of life, energy and passion. She loved animals and was an unashamed tree-hugger. Those in her life were showered with her enthusiasm, creativity, joy, grace and gratitude. She loved parties and dancing, and always regretted that she couldn't sing (although it didn't stop her).
Loved by so many, Sue left us too soon. She was our Rock of Gibraltar, the sunshine in our lives, the wind beneath our wings. Her loving spirit and shining light will live on in our hearts forever. We will miss you and always love you, our Susie-Q.
