Obituary of Martha Sowerwine
Martha Sowerwine age 65, passed away on September 14, 2015. She was born December 2, 1949 to William and Nan Sowerwine and raised by her father and step-mother, Grace, after her mother's early death. She grew up living in Greenwich Village, New York City during the 1960's where she worked for the Village Voice newspaper. She is survived by her son, Jefferson Hoff, his wife, Alejandra and their two sons, Matteo and Alexander. Most of Martha's adult life was limited by regular dialysis treatment for polycystic kidney disease. Nurses referred to her as a miracle patient as she pulled through one crisis after another. Yet, she became a wonderfully interesting, intelligent, well-read and witty woman. Her skills were utilized by writers' needing an editor for their books. Her passion for life put her in the middle of many political campaigns and where most of her free time was spent volunteering for the Democratic party. Her love of music instilled in her by her father caused her to host a party each year celebrating Beethoven's birthday. She was a proud Mother and dotting Grandmother who made the most of every opportunity to visit her grandsons in California and never leaving before dipping her toes in the frigid Pacific. Most recently was in July of 2015. She will be missed by family, friends and others touched by the many aspects of her life. A Celebration of her life will be held at the Tucson Botanical Gardens on Sunday, November 1, 2015 starting at 5:00 p.m. Celebrants are asked to bring a personal memento for the ofrenda in her honor. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
