Clifford Hofmann

Obituary of Clifford James Hofmann

Clifford James Hofmann 3/15/1926 - 9/23/2015 Retired City of Tucson Special Magistrate Clifford Hofmann, widower of Margaret McKendry Hofmann, and father of Cliff, Wendy, Michael, Paul, Clare, Evan and Chi-chi, died peacefully at Casa de la Luz Hospice after a brief illness. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Cliff served in the Army Air Corps and Marine Corps before beginning his legal career in NYC as a trial attorney. An avid camper and nature lover, Cliff answered an invitation to venture west when a colleague told him that the Navajo Tribe was searching for good lawyers. In 1968, Cliff and Peg pulled up their NY stakes and headed out with seven kids and a beagle, destination Window Rock, Navajo Nation (Arizona). Cliff led the Navajo Legal Aid Service for the Tribe and Peg taught kindergarten at St. Michael Indian School. What began as a two-year commitment ended up turning the family into Arizona transplants. They moved to Tucson where Cliff practiced law and then served as a City Court Judge for nearly 20 years. Cliff had an innate sense of justice, a brilliant sense of humor, and a lifelong Brooklyn accent. Family and friends are invited to gather in Cliff's memory at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Immaculate Heart Chapel, 410 E. Magee Rd., Oro Valley.
