Jeffrey Von Bennett
Dr. Jeffrey Von Bennett passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2015. He was born September 1, 1966 in Columbus, Ohio. He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty six years, Carol Meyers, and loving sons, Mark, William, Samuel, and Matthew. Son of Paul and Laura Bennett, brother to Randall (Deb), Stephen (Deborah), Douglas (Rebecca), Paula (Andrew) Conway. Jeff was the favorite uncle to many nephews and nieces. Jeff was a treasured member of the Meyers family, Continental Ranch Ward family, and the University of Arizona Educational Leadership family.
He grew up in Grove City, Ohio, graduating from Grove City High School in 1984. He attended the Ohio State University where he received a Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in Education. From 1985 to 1987, Jeff served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Vienna Austria Mission. Jeff married Carol on March 3, 1989 in the LDS Washington DC Temple.
Jeff moved to Arizona in 2006 to begin work as an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona. In 2014 Jeff was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure, and was excited about continuing the scholarship and teaching that so energized and engaged him. In addition to his ongoing work in community partnerships, Jeff was very active in an international network of scholars and led the construction and validation of a survey for leadership capacity and school development. Jeff has published many articles and chapters on educational leadership, capacity building, and community partnerships.
Prior to his work at the UA, Jeff taught for twelve years as a social studies teacher in Columbus City Schools, in Columbus, Ohio.
Jeff was a devoted husband, father and son. He always put his family before his career. Jeff was a gifted musician, historical buff, an avid Buckeye and Wildcat fan. He was always looking for learning opportunities and could often be found with a book. Jeff's love of Christ showed in the way he shared the gospel, fulfilled his church callings, and served others.
Jeff will be deeply missed by his family, friends and colleagues. Memorial contributions may be made through https://www.gofundme.com/bv9h8ucf . Education was Jeff's passion. These funds will be used for his sons' college education.
Jeff was often heard quoting his favorite scripture from the Book of Mormon
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." (Helaman 5:12)
