Obituary of Stephen Augustine Newcomb
NEWCOMB, Stephen Augustine, was born in Minneapolis, MN, on November 1, 1963, and passed away in Tucson, AZ, on September 16, 2015. He was a material scientist, who graduated with a B.S. from the University of Arizona in 1988, a M.S. in 1992 and a Ph.D. in Material Science in 1995, both from Penn State University. He contributed to a successful textbook in his field, still in use. He loved hiking throughout Arizona and the Southwest and shared his passion and knowledge for hiking with many students at the hiking club at University of Arizona. Preceded in death by his mother, Marcia Jean Newcomb, whom he cared for over many years with the greatest filial love and devotion. Survived by his father, Dr. Richard T. Newcomb, professor emeritus at University of Arizona; his brother, Richard T. Newcomb II, of Irving, TX, and sisters, Patricia M. Newcomb of Rochester, NY, and Meg Sax of Tucson. Memorial Mass this Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 N. Valley View Rd. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel (742-7901).
