Obituary of Mary S Richter

Mary S. Richter Our beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary S. Richter "Mimi", a longtime resident of Tucson, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. She was born in Toledo, OH in 1926, the daughter of Dale and Hazel Shannon. She met her true love, Edwin G. Richter, Jr. "Rick," in elementary school, and they married in 1947. She was a devoted mother of three children, Gayle, David and Matthew and dedicated grandmother to seven grandchildren, Lee, Megan, Camille, Danielle, Luke, Owen and Harrison and three great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Austin, and Eva. Her spirit has been reunited with her parents, her husband, Ed and her two brothers, Ken and Bill. Mary was a dedicated caregiver to her husband for 20 years while he lived with Parkinson's disease. She took this challenge in stride, and her strength became support for other caregivers in the Tucson Caregivers' Group. As a teacher to us all, she shared wisdom and joy with family, many foreign exchange students from the University of Arizona, and so many others who she included at her dinner table. Her seemingly infinite friends from around the country, and the world, know the power of her love, as she often opened her heart and home to those facing hardships. When she wasn't busy helping others as a volunteer with the American Parkinson's Disease Association, the West, and other charitable organizations, you could often find Mimi watching her favorite sports, gardening, or bird watching. She truly touched all she met with her enthusiasm for life and a desire to live it fully. We can imagine her now, singing and dancing in "Papa's" arms. A private memorial will be held. Donations can be made in Mary's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 or by calling 1-800-708-7644. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
