Obituary of Joan Kane Wood
Joan Kane Wood beautiful mother, grandmother and cherished wife, passed away April 29, 2015 in Tucson, Arizona. Joan was born (April 21, 1929) and raised in Patagonia, Arizona by her mother, Rose and stepfather, Dawson. She was the great-granddaughter of Arizona pioneer Thomas Gardner and grew up in town and on the ranches of her uncles and aunts of Santa Cruz County. While attending business college in Tucson, Joan met the love of her life, Thomas Wood of Bisbee. The two were wed in 1949 and enjoyed 65 happy years of marriage. They raised four children and built a successful business together, Wood Brothers Lumber Company. Joan and Tom remain close with the many friends they have made throughout their lives, including families and members of St. Joseph's parish and Salpointe High School. Joan is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Wood; son, Dr. James (Teresa) Wood; daughters, Suzi (Dan) Deurloo, Ann (Alex) Weatherbie and Jeannie (Matt) Medina; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, their children and her beloved cousins and other relatives. She is preceded in death by daughter, Theresa; mother, Rose Boyce; father, Jim Kane; stepfathers, Dawson Scoggins and Lee Boyce; sister, Frances Strunk and brother, Grover Kane. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2015 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Boulevard, Tucson, Arizona
