Obituary of William T Carpenter
William T. Carpenter 72, passed away at home with his family April 3, 2015. Bill was born and raised in New York before receiving degrees from Swarthmore College, Princeton University and a PhD from Purdue University. He moved to Simi Valley, CA and was employed by Hughes Aircraft for 25 years before transferring to Tucson, where he retired from Raytheon as a Vice President. While living in Simi Valley, Bill was elected to the City Council, served as Mayor, and was on the Board of the Southern California Association of Governments. He was President of the Simi Valley YMCA and Boys and Girls Club, and served on the Boards of the Simi Valley Rotary and Ventura Red Cross. He was a founder of the Ventura County Cancer Support Community. The Pentagon honored Bill with the Missile Defense Pioneer Technology Award. AIAA presented him with the Missile Systems Award and Purdue University, with the Outstanding Electrical Engineering Award. Most recently, Bill was appointed by the President to the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie; daughter, Sarah (Ibrahim); son, Bill (Aoko), sister, Lynn Arnold and four grandchildren.
