Obituary of Dorothy Boze Olson
Dorothy Boze Olson, 93, passed away peacefully with family by her side on April 5, 2015 at Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson, AZ. Born April 24, 1921 in Paxton, Illinois, to parents Henry and Ruth Bankson, she graduated from Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, in 1942. She enjoyed all of her nursing roles from surgery to ophthalmology, but especially the last 18 years at Ferrell Duncan Clinic in Springfield, MO.
Dorothy was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Springfield, for 45 years where she enjoyed numerous activities and a wonderful circle of friends. She was also an active Lady Bears basketball and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Dorothy's first husband, Woodrow Boze, passed away in 1974 after 25 years of marriage. She married Herbert Lynn Olson in 1984 and they enjoyed many years of retirement together, including sporting events, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, travel, gardening, and visiting family and friends. Lynn passed away in 2000 and in 2005 Dorothy moved from Springfield to Tucson to be near her family. She continued to have a zest for life, participating in many activities at her retirement community and especially enjoyed her time with family. Dorothy was a gracious, loving and caring woman who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two children, Jan Bontrager (Charles), Tucson, and Steven Boze (Valarie), Los Angeles. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Alex Boze, and Cari Bollinger (Dave), and three great-grandchildren, Delaney, Ashtyn and Cameron. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Bankson.
Special thanks to Casa de la Luz Hospice for making her transition comfortable and peaceful.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2441 S. Lone Pine Ave., Springfield, MO 65804, the Humane Society, or a charity of choice.
