Obituary of Harold Leo McDonald

Harold Leo McDonald 84, passed away at his Tucson home on February 13, 2015. He is survived by daughter, Jeanne Nordstrom (Victor); son, Harold James McDonald (Jody) and daughter, Joan Spaulding (Kevin), all of Tucson; four grandchildren, David Nordstrom, Daniel Nordstrom, Amanda Raisch-McDonald and Amie Gabusi; a brother, Gerald Lee McDonald (Alice) a sister, Velta Wingard, as well as many other friends and relatives. Harold was born March 15, 1930 in Vici, Oklahoma to Bertha and Lynn McDonald, the oldest of three children. He attended Vici High School and Oklahoma A&M, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He loved attending school, eventually achieving Master Degrees in both Nuclear and Mechanical Engineering. He also completed coursework for two Doctorate Degrees, however, his restless soul prevented him from finishing dissertations for either one. He enlisted in the Army as an officer, and initially served in Korea in the field of communications. He eventually reached the rank of Bird Colonel. Harold held many jobs, including ones at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington, Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California, The City of Tucson and The University of Arizona, both in Tucson, Arizona. Additionally, he worked within Civil Service for many years. One of the last positions he accepted with them afforded him the opportunity to work in Spain and Germany for several years. He was a world traveler with passports full of stamps from a variety of exotic places, but he loved Scotland the most. He had a kind heart and gave generously to causes that were important to him, even establishing a scholarship fund for Vici High School students hoping to attend college. A Memorial Service will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., Tucson, AZ at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, with a burial to immediately follow at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Avenue, Tucson AZ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the VFW Post 4903, 1150 N. Beverly Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85712.
