Obituary of Jane Dorothy Kentner
Jane Dorothy Kentner 1924 - 2014 90, resident of Oro Valley, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Martin Millard Kentner, a WW II Navy Veteran, their infant son, Martin and her brother, William H. Billings. She is survived by their daughter, Deborah K. Young and son-in-law, Charles Young, along with her six grandchildren, Peter, Benjamin, Susan, Anna, Nathan and Martin. She was the proud great-grandmother to Lexi, Will, Charlie, Cardin and Avila. Jane had 13 nieces and nephews. Born Jane Dorothy Billings on March 19, 1924 in College Point, NY, she later graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in New York City. Affectionately known as "Billie" to the surgeons, her proficiency skills as a surgical nurse were highly valued and sought after. Jane continued her nursing career both in Buffalo and Geneseo, NY, as well as in Tempe, AZ, where she relished her time as a college infirmary nurse. Jane was an accomplished seamstress and artist. Her creative endeavors were enjoyed by both family and friends over the years. Always giving of her time and talents, she delighted in knitting preemie baby articles of clothing for local Tucson hospitals. Jane amazed her family with her prowess in tackling and completing the daily crossword puzzles and was an avid reader and Scrabble aficionado. She was especially fond of animals - a warm "thank you" to those friends at Splendido who visited her with their special companions. Throughout their long married life together, both Jane and her devoted husband, Martin, enjoyed travel, playing golf together, and the company of many dear friends and relatives. She and 'Marty' were active members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, serving as deacons and in other out-reach capacities. Jane was a beautiful woman who possessed a quiet dignity, inner strength, and a deep abiding faith. Her loving and humble spirit will forever reside in the hearts and memory of her family and all who knew her. A private family service was held at the Columbarium Garden at St. Andrews, Saturday, November 15, 2014. Those wishing to make a memorial gift may contact St. Andrew's Church, 7600 N. Paseo del Norte, Tucson, AZ 85704 indicating a donation to the "Preschool Scholarship Fund" for children of families in need. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care given to Jane by all the nurses and caregivers of the Sonora Unit at Splendido. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel. -
