Obituary of Anne Snodgrass

Anne Snodgrass born in Columbus, Ohio on March 20, 1915, Anne Snodgrass died at home in Tucson on October 17, 2014, surrounded by family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, as well as a talented artist whose paintings conveyed both the inner and outer beauty of her subjects. Anne graduated from Ohio State University in 1937 with a degree in English/Fine Arts. She was honored with membership in Chi Delta Phi for her literary work, and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After graduation, Anne worked as a model in NYC, appearing on the covers of Life Magazine, Look, Saturday Evening Post, Glamour and Ladies' Home Journal. In 1945 she fell in love with Marvin Snodgrass, and moved to Tucson, where they married and made their home together for the next 63 years. They raised three children, passing along cherished family values of loving and respecting nature and the cultural diversity of people throughout the world. She opened the Anne Scott Modeling School to mentor young women in finding their "inner glow." Anne completed her Masters degree in 1968 at the University of Arizona, and worked for the next decade as a counselor with the Arizona Department of Vocational Services. As a life-long artist, Anne showed and sold her oil, watercolor, and pastel paintings in southwest galleries, private shows and by commission worldwide. www.annesnodgrass.com She was active in the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild, Northern Arizona Fine Arts Association, Tubac Art Association, PEN Women, St Francis Methodist Church, Tucson Boys And Girls Club, and the YWCA. After retirement, Anne and Marvin became owners of Quail Valley Tennis Club, together creating a favorite gathering place for the community. Anne lived her 99 years of life with an abundance of joy, curiosity, good humor, and grace. Whether creating art, raising children, modeling, counseling, traveling or being with friends and family, Anne's special gift was in seeing all of life through eyes of love. Her sister, "Tootie" Jeffries; brother, Andy Scott; grandson, Aaron Mohr and her husband, Marvin Snodgrass preceded Anne in death. She is survived by her three children, Judy Mohr, Susan Scott and Jeff Snodgrass; her five grandchildren, Jeff Jewett, Robyn (Javier) Jimenez, Elizabeth (Micah) Lowe, Marvin Snodgrass and Jennifer Snodgrass; her four great- grandchildren, Leonardo Jimenez, Brooke Lowe, Mateo Jimenez and Gavin Lowe. A private celebration of life will be held with family.
