Obituary of Francis Mead McMunigle

Francis (Mac) Mead McMunigle, Col. (RET.) USAF Passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 29, 2014 in Tucson, AZ. He was born in Jamestown, PA on January 30, 1919 to Robert and Grace McMunigle. Mac had only one sibling, Marie, two years his junior. His 30 plus year military career began in 1942 as a navigator. After WWII, he became a pilot. Mac's career took him to many parts of the world which included Italy, Korea, Japan, Panama Canal Zone, and numerous places throughout the United States. His final assignment was the Director of Personnel (1967-1973) at the Air War College in Maxwell AFB, Alabama. Mac married Thelma Jean Cole in 1947. They remained married until her death in 2004. Mac had two children, Philip and Elaine. Philip passed away in 2002. Mac lived in Tucson for almost 32 years and Sierra Vista for ten. Mac and Thelma enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their RV. Mac was a true Patriot who believed in the greatness of America. He volunteered at DMAFB for many years in the Vita program, helping people with their income taxes. He also volunteered with the Sierra Vista Republican Party. Mac is survived by his daughter, Elaine (Steve) Borchers; grandchildren, Ross (Carina) Borchers and Kelly (Scott) Loomis; great-grandchildren, Henry and Violet Loomis and Drew and Caily Borchers and three nieces, Martha, Nancy and Carolyn and one nephew, Bob. Thank you to the caring staff at Bonnie's Care Home for providing a loving and nurturing atmosphere for Mac's final months. Also, thank you to Carondlet Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. and a Military Honors Ceremony will take place at the Veteran's Cemetery in Sierra Vista on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either of the following organizations: woundedwarriorproject.org or to the Alzheimer's Association, Research Branch www.alz.org
