Obituary of Richard Lawrence Zewiey
Richard Lawrence Zewiey, 90yrs. Transcended into peace: July 25, 2014 Beloved Father of Jackqueline Priitzker, Barbara Nichols, Joanne VanHelden, Christine DiMaggio, Debra Beckett, Mary Ziinkevicz, Donna Horvit, Richard Zewiey jr. Mark Zewiey, and Lawrence Zewiey Born 11-24-1923 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He grew up in the south end of Boston at a time when it was difficult for family's to make a living. He was the last survivor of his mother the late Josephine De Corey and father George Zewiey. His pre deceased siblings are brothers Harold Zewiey, Mitchell Zewiey, and sisters; Valerie Manolas and Celia Nichols. He has 21 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He joined the Marines in June 1942. He was assigned to Parris Island and then to Samoa, Caledonia, Guadacanal, Bouganville and throughout the Asiatic-pacific-theater, including the Northern Solomon's. He is entitled to the good conduct and Pacific theatre medals. He retired with his wife Mary T. Sommers in Inverness, Florida. Richard always had a great sense of humor, enjoyed doing his crossword puzzles everyday; which kept him mentally alert till the very end. He also enjoyed fishing, and was a wonderful artist who painted in oil's. He remained strong, and had compassion for others less fortunate.
