Obituary of Eleanor Rice Feeney
Eleanor Rice Feeney, 90, was born in Morenci, Arizona, on January 10, 1924. She died in Tucson April 21, 2014. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Hal Rice; her husband, Frederic T. Feeney; and her sister, Shirley Fitzgerald, whom she dearly loved as she did the family and friends she now leaves among them: her nephew, Rick (Paula) Fitzgerald; her nieces, Ann (Jim) Larrabee and Jenelle (Mark) Van Brunt, as well as many great-nieces and nephews. She worked for the Arizona Daily Star for 28 years, where she had her own byline and served as editor of the women's page for many years, and then as editor of the editorial page. Eleanor volunteered for St. Luke's Home, Oasis tutoring program, Primavera food service. A 1945 graduate of the University of Arizona, she put her journalism degree to use by editing the yearbook. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and the Mortar Board Honorary. She was also a member of the Junior League of Tucson. Her last 2½ years were spent at El Rancho Encanto assisted living, where she received excellent and loving care. The family is grateful to the staff there and to the care of Agape Hospice. Services will be at Grace/St. Paul Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St., Tucson on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. Remembrance gifts may be made to St. Luke's Home or to Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.
