William Hulford

Obituary of William Hulford

Hulford, William William Hulford, 80, of Tucson, Arizona, died on March 16, 2014 after a long bout with cancer. Formerly of Oxford, CT, Bill was born in Bridgeport, CT and grew up in the South End. Upon graduating from Bullard Havens Technical High School, he joined the Navy and served aboard the aircraft carrier, Ticonderoga. Some of his best stories were about his life in the Navy. Bill worked for Warner Packaging, now Rexam Corporation, for nearly 40 years, supervising the maintenance of their printing presses, until his retirement in 1996. He was an avid bowler on the company team for many years. Bill and his family lived in Oxford for 29 years. In 2006, he sold his snow blower and riding mower and moved to sunny Arizona, where the only snow is briefly on the mountains and the "lawns" are crushed stone and cactus. Bill is survived by his wife, Becky, his daughter, Jennifer Odell, her husband, Turner, and their daughters, Maisie and Fia. His many nieces and nephews were dear to him. He was predeceased by his sister, Doris Huminski. Bill had a wicked wit and often said, "Never lose your sense of humor". He lived that philosophy to the end, dying peacefully at home. Adair Funeral Home of Tucson arranged his cremation. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association .
