Obituary of Stanley Nowicki
Stanley Nowicki, world traveler, took his final journey on March 5, 2014, at age 98. He was born in Rogozno, Poland, into a family that included three brothers and two sisters. World War II interrupted his career as a teacher and set him on a course that included service in the Polish Army, capture by both Russian and German troops, escape from a train bound for Siberia, forced labor on a farm in Austria, and service in the Allied Forces under British command, with a posting in Italy, where he met his future wife, Aurelia. After the war they were married at Newcastle-on-Tyne and lived in England before emigrating to the United States and settling in Chicago, where they lived and reared their family before retiring to Tucson and spending many years enjoying their grandchildren and traveling the world. Stanley leaves behind Aurelia "Lala," his beloved wife of 67 years; daughters, Barbara Liguori and Christine (Dennis) Niezgoda; son, Mark (Teri); and grandchildren, Justin (Kathryn) Alex, and Andrew Liguori, Matthew and Michael Niezgoda, and Cortny, Ryan and Kristi Nowicki. Stanley was a kind, gentle, and remarkable man of strong faith, whose example guided us, whose wisdom always pointed us in the right direction, and whose love carried us through every turn in the road.
