Obituary of George Hathaway Gardiner
George Hathaway and Wilma Gardiner. George, 96, passed away peacefully in his home at Fellowship Square on February 4, 2014. He was born in 1917. He married his high school sweetheart, Wilma Mae Inskeep; and they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this past October. George served in the Navy during World War II. Afterwards he became a radio broadcaster, a highly successful real estate salesman for Tucson Realty, an author of several Western novels, and wrote a long-running southern Arizona newspaper column, "The way I Heard it." George loved horses, golf, the American West, the Arizona Wildcats, and telling stories. George and Wilma lived in Ohio and Florida before moving to Tucson and spent 20 years in Sonoita. He was an admired and generous man who will be missed by everyone who ever knew him. Survived by his son, David; grandchildren, Miranda, Edward, Jessica and Eric; great-grandchildren, Brett, Seth, Ava and Cole' and great-great-granddaughter, Aliviana. Preceded in death by wife, Wilma, November 23, 2013, and son, Michael. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
