Obituary
Obituary of Harry P. Schoen
Harry P. Schoen Jr. (Lt Col. Ret) peacefully died on January 28, 2014. While we are saddened to see him go, we are comforted to know that he is with our Lord and will be reunited with his wife, Mary, and his family. Born in Hastings, MN, on April 30, 1919, the fourth of seven children, he attended Drake Univ. prior to joining the Army in 1940. He served in Panama and with the 70th Infantry Div. in Europe. He received the bronze star but felt his highest honor was the combat infantry badge. He graduated from the Univ. of Minn. and accepted a regular commission as an officer, serving in Korea and Vietnam. After a distinguished 32-year career, he "retired" to Tucson, returning to school to earn BS and MS degrees in accounting. As a CPA he enjoyed a second career, working for the City of Tucson and Pima College. Dad enjoyed fishing, golfing with Mom and friends, skiing with the family, and attending football and cultural events at the U of A. He is survived by his four children, Barbara, Harry III, Jim (Gerry), and Kurt (Sallie); four grandchildren, Nicole, Michael, Cheyenne, and Daisy; and many nieces and nephews. Dad taught us the importance of integrity, education, self-reliance, determination, and keeping our Catholic faith. Simply put, he was a good man. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Burial will be at the Ft Huachuca Post Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge and Speedway.
